Comparison

Synthesized vs K2view: how the two test data platforms compare

Both platforms mask, subset and generate test data across many systems, on-premises or as SaaS. Choose Synthesized for SAP S/4HANA or ECC and the applications around it, and documents masked under the same policy as your tables. Choose K2view for entity-based self-service with data reservation, versioning and rollback.

SynthesizedK2view (as of November 2026)
ApproachMasks, subsets and generates test data at the level of the application as well as the database, then delivers it through an API, CLI or CI/CD pipeline into test environments and tools such as Tricentis Tosca and UiPath.Organises data into business entities, such as a customer with its accounts and orders. Each entity instance is stored in its own Micro-Database on K2view's Data Product Platform. The TDM product is now called K2view Agentic Test Data Management.
Structured test data maskingFinds sensitive columns and replaces values deterministically: the same input always gives the same output, so foreign keys stay valid. Each original value gets one replacement in every table and connected system.Masks data in flight, entity by entity, with referential integrity across tables, databases and systems. Personal data is found with rules and LLMs, and tokenisation makes masking reversible where needed.
Synthetic data generationGenerates new rows from your schema and the statistics of existing data, with all foreign keys valid. Also generates schema-valid XML from an XSD, linked CSV sets, and synthetic PDFs (bank statements, pay stubs, lab reports) with a true-value JSON file.Four methods: AI generation trained on masked production data, rules-based generation, entity cloning and masking. Bloor Research (June 2026) notes that synthetic generation needs a separate Synthetic Data Management licence.
Subsetting and provisioningBuilds subsets by ratio and filters, with all relationships intact. For SAP, it reduces test systems by business keys or dates, and time slicing keeps business processes complete. Jobs are version-controlled YAML that run from CI/CD, so each test run can get fresh data.Subsets by business entity attributes. A self-service portal and APIs add data reservation, versioning, snapshot and rollback, and data aging. An agent announced in July 2026 reads test cases, for example from Jira, and provisions the data they need.
SAP S/4HANA and ECCCovers S/4HANA, ECC and SAP HANA at application level, plus SuccessFactors, Ariba and Concur test copies. Reads SAP through OData (recommended) or a read-only HANA user. Nothing is installed in SAP. Sold on SAP Store.A K2view blog post (February 2026) names ECC, S/4HANA, SAP HANA and BW, but does not say whether K2view connects at database or application level. The TDM product page does not mention SAP, and we found no SAP Store listing.
Other applications, databases and mainframeSalesforce, Workday, Microsoft D365, ServiceNow, Oracle Applications, Oracle Fusion, Guidewire, Duck Creek, Temenos, Avaloq and Blue Yonder, with consistent values across SAP and non-SAP systems. Databases: PostgreSQL, Oracle, SQL Server, MySQL, Db2 LUW, SAP HANA, Snowflake and SQLite, plus CSV and XML files. Mainframe: Db2 for z/OS 13 and later, Db2 for i and VSAM.Solution pages for Workday and Salesforce. Mainframe (z/OS) data through a partnership with Rocket Software announced in January 2026; Db2, VSAM and IMS are not named. Sources named in its bank case study include Db2, BigQuery and Aerospike.
Unstructured documents and messagesMasks PDF, DOCX and PPTX files (scans via OCR), mailboxes with attachments, chats, tickets, Slack and Teams exports, call transcripts, clinical notes, JSON, XML and logs, with the same policy and engine as table masking and one replacement per person across every file in a run. Document support is delivered engineer-led.K2view's masking page lists images, PDFs, documents and presentations. Its own comparison with Tonic (October 2026) says unstructured documents are handled through a third-party partner. Emails and chats are not mentioned.
DeploymentOn-premises, private cloud, hybrid or air-gapped, with Docker Compose or Kubernetes (Helm), or SaaS. Self-hosted deployments send no data to Synthesized. Also sold through AWS Marketplace and Google Cloud Marketplace.K2cloud SaaS, K2cloud self-hosted on Amazon EKS, Azure AKS or Google GKE, and an air-gapped deployment the customer runs. The product page also lists on-premises and hybrid.
AI agents and MCPTest Data Agent (generally available) builds the PII-free data, relationships and system states needed to test AI agents, triggered through REST APIs or CI/CD. MCP server, CLI, REST API and YAML configuration.AI Evaluation and Observability, a separate product, generates multi-turn test cases, scores agent runs and supplies masked or synthetic evaluation data. Each K2view data product can be exposed as an MCP server, aimed at grounding GenAI apps.

Where K2view is strong

K2view models test data as business entities, so a customer arrives with the accounts, orders and records that belong to it, across the systems they live in. That model drives its self-service portal, where testers can reserve data so no one else uses it, save versions, roll back after a destructive test and age dates. Masking, subsetting, entity cloning and AI-based generation sit in one platform, and an agent can read test cases from Jira and provision the data they need. K2view reaches mainframe data through Rocket Software and runs as SaaS, self-hosted or air-gapped. If your priority is self-service reservation and rollback across many systems, including the mainframe, K2view is a strong choice.

Where Synthesized is different

Synthesized works at the level of the SAP application, not only its database. It covers S/4HANA, ECC and SAP HANA through OData or a read-only HANA user, installs nothing in SAP, reduces data by business process so documents and follow-on records stay complete, and is sold on SAP Store. The same platform covers Salesforce, Workday, D365, ServiceNow, Oracle, Guidewire, Temenos and Avaloq, plus mainframe Db2 for z/OS, Db2 for i and VSAM, with one replacement value per person across them. Documents, emails, chats and call transcripts are masked natively under the same policy as the tables, and a project can be set up so that a customer renamed in the database gets the same new name in the PDF letter. It runs on-premises, including air-gapped sites where no data is sent to Synthesized, or as SaaS. Test data goes straight into Tricentis Tosca, UiPath and CI/CD pipelines, and Test Data Agent builds the data and system states needed to test AI agents. Document support is delivered with Synthesized engineers today, so expect a guided start rather than a self-serve sign-up.

Questions about Synthesized and K2view

Is Synthesized or K2view better for SAP test data?

For SAP S/4HANA or ECC, Synthesized works at application level: it reads through OData or a read-only HANA user, installs nothing in SAP, keeps business processes complete when it reduces data, and is sold on SAP Store. K2view's blog names ECC, S/4HANA and SAP HANA but does not say how it connects, and we found no SAP Store listing. Ask both to run on your own SAP sandbox.

Can Synthesized and K2view mask PDFs, emails and chats?

Synthesized masks PDF, DOCX and PPTX files including scans, mailboxes with attachments, chats, tickets and call transcripts under the same policy as your tables, inside your environment. Document support is engineer-led, and you can test it on 50 of your own documents in 48 hours. K2view's masking page lists images, PDFs and documents, while its October 2026 comparison with Tonic says unstructured documents go through a third-party partner. K2view's pages do not mention emails or chats.

Which handles mainframe test data?

Both. K2view reaches z/OS mainframe data through a partnership with Rocket Software announced in January 2026; Db2, VSAM and IMS are not named. Synthesized supports Db2 for z/OS 13 and later, Db2 for i and VSAM, alongside Db2 LUW, Oracle, SQL Server, PostgreSQL, MySQL, SAP HANA and Snowflake.

Where does each product run?

Both offer self-hosted, air-gapped and SaaS options. Synthesized runs on-premises, in your private cloud, hybrid or air-gapped, with Docker Compose or Kubernetes, or as SaaS; self-hosted deployments send no data to Synthesized. K2view offers K2cloud SaaS, K2cloud self-hosted on EKS, AKS or GKE, and an air-gapped deployment that the customer runs.
