SAP test data cost calculator: storage and refresh effort

Estimate what SAP test data costs you a year: storage for full copies of production across QA, pre-production and training, and the people-time every refresh takes. Enter your own figures; the calculation runs on this page and nothing is sent.

1. Storage

Example values shown
For example QA, pre-production and training.
20%
How much of production your tests really need, such as recent years and the company codes in scope.
Use your hosting or RISE rate; the example value is not a benchmark.
Full copies
12,000 GB
USD 300,000 a year
Subsets
2,400 GB
USD 60,000 a year

USD 240,000 a year
Storage across all test systems
Full copies12,000 GB
Subsets2,400 GB

Enter a production size and at least one system to see a result.

How it's calculated

Full copies = production size × systems. Subsets = production size × share kept × systems. Cost = size × your annual cost per GB. The estimate leaves out the cost of a subsetting tool.

2. Refresh effort

Example values shown
Count each system refresh, for example 3 systems × 4 test cycles = 12.
SAP Basis, database, QA and security, including sign-offs.
Copying, cleaning up, masking and checking, from request to usable data.
Your internal or partner rate; the example value is not a benchmark.
Hours a year
1,152
on refreshes alone
Refresh effort
USD 103,680
a year
Storage + effort
USD 343,680
storage difference plus refresh effort, a year

How it's calculated

Hours = refreshes × people × days × 8. Effort = hours × your hourly cost. Storage + effort adds the yearly storage difference from step 1. The calculator doesn't estimate how much effort a tool removes: a health check measures that on your own landscape.

Measure it on your own landscape

A 30-minute health check turns these estimates into your baseline: how long a refresh takes, who it ties up, and the share of production your tests really need.
