In March 2024, Deutsche Bank’s Credit Risk Technology team faced a critical challenge: despite tight ESG project deadlines, progress was blocked by the difficulty of generating high-quality, production-like test data. Traditional statistical approaches proved too time-consuming, and internal efforts to build a generative test data solution lacked the necessary technical resources.

To simulate complex business rules for onboarding nature-related risk client metrics, the team needed a faster, compliant alternative. After exploring options — including an in-house GAN (generative adversarial network) — they connected with the Bucharest Innovation Incubator and discovered Synthesized, an enterprise-grade platform for generating high-fidelity product-like test data.

Deutsche Bank adopted Synthesized’s platform as part of its broader initiative to modernize testing infrastructure and accelerate innovation across critical systems. Delivered via a REST API, Synthesized enables the automated generation of compliant, high-fidelity test data from sample files — mimicking production data while preserving privacy.

To increase adoption, the Credit Risk Technology team developed a custom user interface (UI) on top of the Synthesized API. This made it easier for non-technical teams to generate test data and integrated the tool directly into CI/CD pipelines for seamless delivery into testing environments.

Throughout implementation, the team worked closely with Synthesized’s engineering and support teams to tailor the solution to their needs. They also collaborated with internal AI/ML experts to extend Synthesized’s capabilities to support rule-based data generation and custom formats, ensuring test data aligned with complex ESG onboarding rules.

The result was a reusable, enterprise-ready testing capability that not only met the immediate demands of the ESG project but also established a foundation for future automation and efficiency across test data workflows.
